Inspirations:

The Level Tunnel,Hussein Chalayan,2008
This collaboration between Level Vodka and Chalayan measures 15 metres in lenght and 5 metres in height.I'm fascinated by the piece.Less thrilled about it when I realised it was all for publicity.tisk tisk tisk.

Echoform,Hussein Chalayan,1999
Chalayan believes everything is just an extension of the body."Everything we create in the world is an externalization of the body. From vehicle design to architectonic systems there seems to be an innate connection to the way the body is organised."The piece was displayed in a film , a concept that I quite like and would like to explore in more detail. My only worry would be that it would become too cliched-all flashing images and fashion show music.I will steer clear of that approach. The form of this piece and how each piece is connected together interests me.It looks nailed together almost.I want to create a bodice or skirt for my project that is joined with rivets , and wire.Made form a stiff fabric or possibly a light plastic?just an ideaknitted plastic15_03 hilbert space filling curve art by don relyea

Week 4:Monday

I have decide to be more positive about my project-mainly for myself but also now for my dad who is reading this blog(hi dad).He doesn't appreciate a moody attitude towards work .Especially art related work.

For my project I want to focus on the vast differences between architecture in Limerick city, from the almost clinical apartment blocks that surround the city centre to the dingy alleys and derelict homes that separate these towering buildings. For me it reflects the attitude that dominated the Irish culture for the last ten to twenty years-the crazed building of the nineties and noughties, erecting structures without any chosen purpose or demand. These buildings are often quite banal, and unoriginal and showcase typical features of "good taste" e.g. lots of glass and light.Alot of these buildings remain today inhabited ,most likely left empty as estate agents hopelessly seek to find tenants.

I am interested in the contrasting textures, colours, lighting and structures that can be seen around my hometown. For instance situated on the same street as the glass-fronted Dunnes Stores in town and the sleek and shining Marriott hotel are damp and dank alleys that are filled with bins ,broken bottles and mould.

This week I want to focus on analytical drawings , comparing the textures and structures of a modern building with run down areas. On Wednesday I wish to move towards experimenting with some 3-d models.
wish me luck as it will be needed...........

No photos as of yet,due to my camera going walk-a -bouts.

I have to write something about my project. So far its a collection of sketchbooks and a few patches of knitting. It's safe to say I'm not sure what direction it's heading in yet but hopefully this will help.
